The Next British Invasion

In class this week we discussed The British Invasion and its influence on American music. With the American blues elements in their music, they helped revive the blues scene. This revival helped to influence more bands and so on and so forth. With the impact that the British had on American music do you think that Americans still look to Britain for more musical influence? Would it be safe to say that more genres such as dubstep and other electronic music are the next "wave" of the British Invasion?

  1. i think dupstep is definately making it big in USA... at the same time i think with globalization it is difficult to keep cultures from different ends of the world at bay. There have been Latino influence in the States too. I have heard music from India remixed with Hip hop. I think American Music can also influence music in other parts of the world.

  2. I think you raise an interesting point Jeremy, and you as well Mita. I absolutely think that Americans continue to look to Britain for more musical influence-and this is obvious with the popularity of genres like dupstep and other forms of electronic music. I don't know if it would ever be of the same momentum as the invasion of the '60s. And Mita, you make a strong point that with globalization, it is virtually impossible to avoid the fusion of different musical stylings from all corners of the globe. Ireland has a large electronic music scene that many American artists look to for inspiration, hip hop artists look to India, Singapore, Japan and other parts of Asia for samples, and these are just some examples.
